Der Name Cazan bedeutet Kessel (im Sinne von Kochkessel, Teekessel, Lokomotivkessel). Er kommt als Sachbegriff in vielen Ländern vor, die von Turkvölkern seit dem 8. Jahrhundert durchzogen oder besiedelt wurden. Als Familienname war er vor allem in Rumänien häufig. Von dort hat er sich im Laufe der letzten 100 Jahre in weitere Länder verbreitet (USA, Frankreich, Deutschland, Österreich). Im 17./18.Jh. Jahrhundert findet sich der Name Cazan bei einer (Süd)Tiroler Adelsfamilie. Interessanterweise kommt das Phonem auch im Hebräischen vor (Chazan); dort steht es für den Kantor, den Sänger in der Synagoge.

In the 17th/18th century the name is to be found at a (South)Tyrol noble family. Interestingly the Phoneme also appears in hebraic (Chazan); there it means the singer in the synagogue.
